Yes, You Can Tips for the Encore Bride

By Jean Neuhart If you are like many brides, this may not be your first wedding. So youre probably wondering what am I allowed to have at my wedding? Guess what? Theres good news. You can have your wedding any way you want! This day is for you and your fianc and the celebration of the love you have for each other. Dont let anything in the past put a damper on the excitement of this new and wonderful relationship you share, or get in the way of having the celebration you really want. With the minor exception of two things – a veil and orange blossoms, which both symbolize virginity – there is nothing you cannot have at your wedding. Yes, you can wear white – it is the color of celebration. Your bridal party can be as large or as small as you want. You can register for gifts. If your attendants or someone else wants to throw a bridal shower for you, let them. You can also have a bachelorette party. Think about your previous wedding for a moment, and consider the following: (1) Do you want to do everything in a new way? (2) Did you feel overwhelmed by the size of your last ceremony? (3) Did the style of your first wedding reflect your tastes, regardless of its outcome? (4) Do you want to find a special role for your children? (5) Are you still close to your in-laws, ex-spouse? (6) Would you feel more comfortable with a civil ceremony? Honestly answering these questions can help guide you in your wedding planning. Dont concern yourself with any party-poopers who are wondering why in the world youre planning a wedding anyway. The love and commitment you and your fianc have for each other deserves celebrating. Why not shout it from the roof tops with a dream wedding? And if they dont get it, then thats their problem, not yours. And, most of all, have fun. Sexy Eye Makeup

By Asuncion Parra Llorente Sexy, appealing eyes are nothing new to women. We have known for thousands of years how to attract and allure using the power of our eyes. Just look at the ancient Egyptians. Cleopatra certainly knew what she was doing using kohl to dramatically line her eyes. Sexy eyes are not about shockingly bright colors; rather sexy eyes are about creating the perfect almond shaped eye. Women in the early 1900s knew that large, almond shaped eyes were appealing. Once again, we come full circle to the Egyptians and their heavily lined almond shape. So how do we achieve a sexy eye without looking like a raccoon or a Halloween character? How to Apply Sexy Eye Makeup 1. Begin applying sexy eye makeup with a clean and moisturized face. It is important for the makeup to not mix with oils and dirt from the skin. This could make the makeup look messy and just plain bad. 2. Keep the colors neutral when applying sexy eye makeup. Choose pallets in brown, charcoal, black, or gray. Bright colors may make the eyes appear smaller. Choose a vanilla tone to highlight. Vanilla works well on most women. White can be harsh for this effect. 3. Eyeliner will create the illusion of bigger, more seductive eyes. Eyeliner can also help to correct eye shape giving the eyes the desired almond shape which is characteristic of sexy eyes. Begin by lining the top lash line from the inner corner and extending the line slightly past the edge. Use a soft pencil or powder so that the line is not harsh. Harsh lines might make you look angry, not sexy. You can go over the line using an angled brush to create a smoother finish and fan out the edges so that the line is not too harsh. 4. Line the bottom outer third of the lower lid keeping close to the lash line and extend slightly past the edge. 5. Remember that we are going for an almond shape. Judge the line to see that it creates the shape of an almond. You may need to make the line thicker depending upon the shape of your eye. A perfectly shaped eye will immediately give the illusion of sexiness. If you look at fashion models in magazines, even the minimalist has carefully shaped the eye for an almond look. 6. For sexy eyes, we are going to open up the eyes to make them appear larger; therefore, we must gradually increase the color as we move toward the brow. Begin with dark shadow. If you line the eyes with brown, choose chocolate shadow. Apply color to the mobile eye making sure that the color intensity is darkest close to the lashes and outer third of the eye to create the desired almond shape of a sexy eye. The intensity should decrease as you move towards the crease. 7. Check for the desired shape and that the color intensity is equal on both eyes. 8. Apply shadow to the lower lid sweeping it towards the outer corner. Be sure to keep the intensity light or you may look like a raccoon. You can always increase the intensity if you desire. Concentration should b on the outer third. 9. Fill in the inner corner of the eye and above the brow bone using vanilla to highlight and open the eyes. This will make the eyes appear even larger and finish the sexy eye makeup. 10. Curl the lashes to further open the eyes and apply mascara to both top and bottom. Fan the lashes when applying the mascara to make the eyes appear sexy and large. Concentrate more mascara on the outer third of the lashes. Emotionally Intelligent Relationships: Part 2 – The 6 Steps to Conflict in Relationships

By Glenn Cohen Ask yourself, why cant I experience an Emotionally Intelligent Relationship? The answer can be summed up with one simple word Reactivity. In order to create an EIR, you must understand The 6 Steps to Conflict in Relationships. Allow me to explain. All of us have emotional wounds that can originate from four different sources. Emotional wounds are the aftermath of painful relationship experiences where your needs went unmet, feelings were invalidated, or emotional pain was somehow inflicted on you. When an event occurs, your mind tends to interpret the event as a positive or negative experience. A negative experience can be anything from a parent minimizing or invalidating, peers teasing or ridiculing, or a boss telling you are incompetent, to a partner being unfaithful or inflicting emotional/physical abuse. Sound familiar? Unfortunately, these types of events set the stage for emotional wounds. After these type of experiences, your mind begins a self-dialogue that creates fear. The fear presents itself in a number of ways feeling insecure, unworthy, unlovable, threatened by abandonment, a desire for control, or mistrust. Fear leads to sadness, loneliness, anxiety, and pain that go hand in hand with emotional wounds. If your fears become too intense, they can lead your mind to create the twin pillars of distorted perspectives and unrealistic expectations. The twin pillars skew your view of reality and blur the lines between past pain and present reality. Thus, you view events through the foggy lens of fear. When an everyday issue, situation, or problem arises that does not match the distorted perspective or unrealistic expectation, it acts as an emotional triggerand activates the associated fear from the emotional wound. Triggers lead to emotional reactivity through a release of negative energy. It is this reactivity that causes most of the problems in relationships and leads you to behave in an emotionally unintelligent manner. The intensity of the reactions is directly correlated to the severity of the wound and the intensity of the associated fears. Reactivity comes in two forms. People either react inwardly by withdrawing or outwardly by exploding and lashing out at others. Common forms of inward reactivity include avoidance, silence, and isolation. Conversely, typical forms of outward reactivity include yelling, tantrums, name-calling, and throwing or breaking objects. I call negative reactive behaviors Relationship Killers. They include the following (and many other forms) of words, actions, and behaviors: Mocking, Blaming, Justifying, Accusing, Ridiculing, Invalidating, Criticizing, Minimizing, Angry Outbursts, Spiteful verbal darts, Excessive nit-picking, Selfish demands, Disrespectful judgments, Emotional Withdrawal and Disengagement Condescending attitudes, Threatening Verbal/ Physical Behavior Reactivity is the release of negative energy associated with emotional wounds and fears. Reactivity does not define who you are as a person. Unfortunately, because of the hurtful words, actions and behaviors associated with reactivity, it can begin to define the manner in which people perceive, respond to, and treat you. An unfortunate consequence of your reactivity frequently occurs when individuals treat you in a manner that reaffirms your wounds and perpetuates your fear. It is similar to the Law of Attraction – you receive what you send out. If you project negative energy onto your partner through emotional reactivity, it is likely your partner will view you and treat you in ways that validate your fears, actions, and behaviors. This vicious cycle will not be broken until you understand The 6 Steps to Conflict in Relationships and learn to act in an emotionally intelligent manner. However, help is on the way, and change is entirely possible! Should You Take A Break From Web Site Dating Services?

By Bonny Albo Have you met a lot of people from one or two dating web sites recently? Are you feeling a bit out of sorts, burned out, or just generally unhappy with the results? If so, it may be time for a break, or hiatus, from any web site dating services. This article will discuss how you know it’s time to focus on other things for a while, when to take that step and what to do in the meantime. Break Those Bad Habits Take a look at what you are doing right now with respect to any web site dating services. Are you beating your head against the wall, because you just can’t seem to find the person you are looking for? Is your negative attitude towards dating affecting other parts of your life, or are you dating a lot of people, but nothing ever seems to go anywhere? When what you are doing isn’t working, it only makes sense that change is inevitable. STOP DATING. Break the cycle that you’re in at the moment, and don’t visit a dating web site for a while. Try a week for starters, but realize that this process may take a lot longer than that. Think about what you have been doing related to dating, and meeting people through web sites. Now, take those patterns, and DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE. Stop trying to meet someone, and focus on YOU for a bit. Making the Break Once you’ve made the decision to stop dating for a while, go on the various web sites you have subscribed to, and put your account on hold. Just this act alone should take a huge weight off your shoulders. Then, make a list of the things you’ve wanted to do for a while, but just haven’t had the time to because of your web dating habits. Focus on your needs, your interests, your desires for a while. Learn how to make yourself happy, without needing the reassurance from someone you are dating through a web site to do so. Take a course, hit the library, reconnect with old friends. It doesn’t matter what exactly you do, as long as you do something important for yourself. Implement Changes After a week or so of this process, take some time to think about your past relationships, and how they have affected you emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Are you still holding any bitterness or anger towards someone? Perhaps focusing on these feelings can release some of the pent-up emotions that were holding you back previously from being successful in the web site dating world. Do the work required to release these negative feelings, and you’ll be ready to start dating using a web site service again in no time. Once you’ve taken the necessary steps to heal yourself, take inventory again. Are you happy with your life? Are you pursuing things that you enjoy? How do you feel about yourself? Are you ready to bring someone new into your life through a web dating site, now? Time Frame? For some people, this process could take six months, or even a couple of years. Others could work through their issues in as little as three months, but that’s probably pushing it a bit. This may sound like a long time for someone not to date, and it is. But remember how miserable dating has made you? It may not be an easy situation to face, but without taking the time to deal with your issues, you’ll just be spinning your wheels forever. Still in need of dating advice? Can’t get enough online dating news, views and how-to’s? Join Bonny Albo, the author of this article and admitted web dating junkie, at WebDatingNews.com for more. College in the Fifties

By Kenneth C. Hoffman In the country side where I grew up, a high school student’s greatest goal was to work the farm like his dad, get married and have lots of little farmers. Sixteen of us graduated from high school, not including two boys that had to leave in April for spring planting and one girl who got married. One girl and one boy (myself) succeeded in going to college. My grandparents were (relatively) rich but my parents had little money, certainly not enough to send me to college. I loved science and after winning the Bauch and Lomb Science Award, I wanted to be a physicist. My mother read in the newspaper that the S.A.T.s were to be held in a movie theater in the next town, the three top scorers in the state qualifying for State Scholarships. Our high school was perhaps one of the smallest in the state, borrowing most of their teachers from nearby Pennsylvania. In spite of lacking courses in calculus, logic, and higher mathematics, I braved the test anyway. Three weeks later the announcement arrived that I had won the third place spot in the state and would be able to attend Rutgers University, tuition free! After all the jumping and celebrating, we planned how I could afford the room, board, and books. A spot opened on the cafeteria staff of the sister college, Douglas University for Women, providing me with room and board money. I was to serve the college girls coffee and hot chocolate from six thirty until eight AM every week day. Used books were available from the local book store in town. The only fly in the ointment was the Physics class, my major. At the end of the year, I was called into the Dean’s office and informed that my grade in Physics was too low (though passing) to retain my scholarship and I would have to pay tuition the second year. I pleaded that since the physics building was located a mile away, the classes were shortened to forty minutes. I just didn’t have enough time to complete the two semester theory tests in time. My professor asked us to solve three theories. I solved one and completed the second but ran out of time for the third theory. I was just too slow. Calculators would have helped, but they weren’t invented yet. These sixty six per cent grades brought down my fours in the rest of the tests. I was successful in ROTC training, entering a weapons handling contest and winning first place handily. I also joined the track team and went on field trips with the Rutgers Photographic Club. Well, the Dean gave me another chance, if I would agree to go to summer school for advanced mathematics. I also changed my major to Geology, but Physics was still a requirement. The summer school was held in some old World War II Quansett huts, the temperature rising to one hundred degrees in the afternoon. I also found time for photographing children which insured the cost of my books for my Sophomore year. My worst fears were realized when I read my courses the next year. They duplicated my Freshman year courses: Scientific German II, American History II and Physics II. All featured the same professors. The physics classes were held in the same temporary building as last year (the new one was being built) and the same interview with the Dean resulted. But this time it was final. No scholarship. Back at home, a talk with my dad revealed that my education was last on his list (his words) and grandma would not donate one penny much less four thousand dollars. And this for her oldest grandson who was named (middle names of Charles Virgil) after her husband and great grandfather. She said that they wouldn’t dare touch the principle, since they still had two homes to support and the country club and all. Now don’t get the idea that I am at all bitter about this fiasco, just disappointed that I didn’t get to finish. Plan B, which was to be a professional photographer worked out fine. The Successful Marketing Plan

By Keith Perrett The successful marketing plan is often seen as an elusive, unobtainable ideal that you read about in large marketing text books. This widely held perception is most likely the result of people or businesses trying to market something (or someone), but being hampered by a lack of resources. And I use the term resources in the widest possible sense of the word. The bottom line is that most marketing plans are not worth the paper they are written on simply because they are often cobbled together in a rush, using inaccurate information, and exacerbated by a poor understanding or knowledge of the specific target markets etc etc. In other words, Rubbish in = rubbish out. The final nail in the coffin of most marketing plans is where you find them – usually in the bottom draw under a pile of files gathering dust until it gets hauled out for review before the next financial year! So what are the ingredients of the successful marketing plan? There are many, but lets settle on covering the basics. The successful marketing plan will: 1) be concise and user friendly. 2) be written by somebody who understands the business, and where that business is going. 3) be realistic and practical in all respects. 4) have specific measurable outcomes matched to specific marketing actions. 5) be used as an integral part of the day to day running of the business. If you ensure that your marketing plan meets these simple criteria then you will be better off than probably 90% of the businesses that you compete with. And the benefits of taking the time to craft a successful marketing plan should be obvious to all – marketing activities that are not only focused on your target market and therefore more likely to maximise returns, but that are achieved within budget. Now wouldn’t that make a pleasant change! How To Pick Make-Up Foundation For Your Skin

By John Morris Creme foundations are usually the top choice of most makeup artists. Available in sticks and compacts, these provide very good facial coverage. This consistency and texture deliver a rich and perfect finish that can be applied easily resulting to a fine complexion. Offering sheer and complete facial coverage, liquid foundations give the face a very natural appearance. Available in oil based and water based formulations, this is preferred by most women since it can be easily applied and matches the skin well, almost resembling the skin itself. To get a foundation that will perfectly match your complexion, make sure to select one that is based with the color yellow. Dual active powder foundations are so called quick fix foundations, that starts as cream and is applied and spread over the face easily ending in a powder form. Having this function, it is a powder and a foundation all in one. 1. What foundation is best for my skin? Facial foundation for normal skin In the selection of a foundation for normal skin, there are a lot of things to be considered, as there are so many lines of cosmetic foundations available, and in various shades. Often, their main difference is their price. The label will be your best guide. Read the label and make sure it is for dry to normal skin and that it is nonacnegenic so that it will not clog your pores. Facial foundation for acne prone or oily skin For oily skin, the best foundation to use is water-based. These usually come in liquid form, and they offer sheer and total facial coverage, with the downside of lasting for only a maximum of four hours. This problem can be very well addressed by using a loose powder after application of the foundation to help the foundation last longer as well as absorb excess oils. A product labeled as oil controlling is great for oily skin. Again, choose a product that is nonacnegenic, as this will ensure you of unclogged pores and will not worsen your acne condition. For oily skin type, find labels such as oil free or oil controlling on a product – usually these products are water based. Facial foundation for dry or sensitive skin For dry or sensitive skin, cream based is often recommended, the ones with with moisturizing benefits. As they provide full coverage on the face, they too can stay longer. Keep in mind that before any makeup is applied on the face, the face should be cleaned thoroughly using a mild facial wash along with a moisturizing cream; this also enables one to apply the foundation easily as the moisturizer will help to smoothen the foundation. For dry skin, a moisturizing foundation is best, such labels as moisture rich or hydrating are to be looked for. Foundation for combination skin For combination skin, select a product labeled as skin balancing, which would be perfect for this kind of skin type. If you cant find such a product, a combination of liquid foundation and a powder in translucent form will help take off the shine on your T-zone. For combination skin, you have to know if you have skin more on the oily side, or the dry side and select the appropriate formulation – foundations that are cream-to-powder based are recommended for this type of skin. 2. Choosing your foundation: – Know what type of skin you have. Before you shop for the right foundation shade you need to determine first what formulation is right for your skin; is your skin dry? Oily? Or a combination of both? – Remember to go without any foundation on. Your face should be clean so that you can easily test a shade on your face and see clearly whether it matches your skin tone or not. – Pick out three or four shades that you think match your skin tone. They need to look as natural as possible. Usually, the yellowish based shades will give all skin tones a natural look. For a very light or fair skin, a pink shade of foundation will be best. -Test the foundation by applying a small amount near your jawline (not on your wrist!), then decide. – Study the shade of your foundation as to the shade on your jawline. Examine it carefully with a mirror in an open window, where there is natural light. The shade to choose is the shade that you can not see, as it blends well on your skin. It is best that you buy a foundation in a small container first. Once you’re home, try it out again. Return it if you feel the shade isnt right. Then if it is perfect for you, you can go ahead and buy a bigger container. Seduce Women With Powerful Body Language

By Kenneth Oboh Your body language is very important in attracting and seducing women. A word about the way that you move or walk within a club or indeed any social environment. Do not walk too fast or so slow that it looks like you do not know where you are heading to. That instantly conveys a lack of leadership quality. And this is a major turn off as far as female attraction is concerned. Walking upright, head up and with a purpose conveys the signal that you are a strong man who knows exactly where he is heading, literally. And believe it or not, this is one of those subconscious signals like the rest of body language that will trigger feelings in a woman to make her conclude instantly that you are either a leader therefore attractive, or not. Also, the same thing applies to the way you cast your eyes when looking at things around you within your environment. Do it in a purposeful way. Always look round slowly, and with a focused fixed gaze when looking at anything. If you do it too fast and darting your eyes here, there, and everywhere, you will come across like a rabbit caught in headlights, and that is very unattractive to women. Eye contact is the other very important part of body language in attraction. The basic rule of eye contact is this: you have to look everyone in the eye directly, always. Now this doesn’t mean that you should stare people down and run the risk of looking like some sort of weird, retarded psycho. It means that as you walk around on a daily basis or interact with people in any social environment, you DO NOT avoid their eyes if theirs meets yours at any point. Again the reason this is important in attraction and social value is primal in nature. “Alpha,” leader animals tend to have a commanding presence when in a social group and the most important thing that signals the strong male is direct and steady eye contact. You only need to hold eye contact initially upon meeting someone or clocking eyes on them suddenly for a fairly brief period of time, say a good few seconds. After that it may become slightly uncomfortable and you have to take a break from looking too long in their eyes at any one time. And that’s okay as long as you DO NOT look downwards towards the ground when you do so. Looking down after engaging in direct eye contact is the prime way to communicate inferiority. Only animals with very low social value tend to look down. So if you need a break from eye contact, look to your left or your right for a bit and then re-engage the eye contact. Now, I will tell you about an eye contact trick that will make it so easy for you to hold eye contact for as long as you wish and I promise you it will ramp up your attractiveness no end in your interactions with women. What you do is this: when looking at someone, instead of looking straight in their eyes and hitting that point when it becomes uncomfortable, focus your eyes on their eyebrows instead and keep looking at the eyebrows. You will find that when you do this, you can maintain direct eye contact for as long as you need to and be in total control of the process and never feel awkward about it. How to Attract Girls Even If You’re Short

By John J. Alexander Let me mention a few names and you can tell me what they all have in common: – Al Pacino – Humphrey Bogart – Napoleon That’s right… they’re all short guys. But you know what? They were all awesome with the ladies (and not just because of their celebrity status… they were all players before they became famous.) In fact, the reason they could attract girls was because of their strong inner attitude. There are a couple things you can do in the short term. Wearing boots right now will subtly add 2 or 3 inches to your height. Also, when you dress, wear vertical stripes and tight clothes. That will make you look SLENDER, which will make you appear taller. Long term, one way short guys can be more dominant physically is to work out. In fact that really should be first and foremost. If you’ve got muscles, it helps A LOT, not only with your physical appearance, but also with your confidence levels, strong inner attitude, and poise. So get in the gym. When you’re muscular and you’re a short guy, you become like a pit bull. And by the way, I’d like you to experiment with that.. do not always be the nice guy who’s polite. For the next few months, try to let your “inner badass” come out a bit when you’re with girls. Do the affirmation, “I’m becoming like the pitbull who can dominate the bigger dogs.” Once you start feeling more and more confident in a few weeks, change your affirmation to, “I AM like the pitbull who can dominate bigger dogs.” I’ve noticed that a lot of short guys develop a VERY strong presence by having cultivated that inner badass. Now, I’m not saying you should become a jerk… but just try to balance out that inner nice guy. Next thing to do long term is to GIVE UP any approval-seeking. Who cares what women think of you? Go through life doing what you want and being who you are. (That is so key by the way… those guys I list above were players exactly because they went through life doing what they wanted and being true to who they were.) You see, short guys who are badasses really have a bit of an advantage. Because of their stature, they automatically are able to have more rapport with chicks (who tend to be short themselves) than the guys who are beanpoles. And when you add to that a bit of a “badboy” element, it makes chicks dripping wet with attraction. The bottom line is this: only if YOU feel uncomfortable with your height will it affect you with the girls. If you feel completely comfortable with your height, then they will too. By the way, when it comes to tall guys, what women find attractive about them isn’t their height. It’s their dominance. If you have a tight sense of inner confidence, and project a personality that sucks them in, height will be the furthest thing from their minds. So to sum up, be true to yourself, take risks in life, cultivate your inner badass, and stop caring about anyone’s approval. And hit the gym ASAP. And do the fashion things I said. Then you’ll attract girls without worrying about irrelevant things like height. PPI and Secured Loans – The Small Print

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Adrian_Hudson]Adrian Hudson Introduction As your home is put up as security against a secured loan it is nearly always sensible to take out insurance against the payments. All secured loan providers offer Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) and, as the market grows, there are a growing number of specialists insurance providers. This article discusses some of the things to be cautious of when taking out PPI, regardless of which type of provider you use, for a secured loan. PPI – Always look under the bonnet! The Financial Services Authority (FSA), who in January 2005 took insurance under their regulation, demands that all insurance providers provide a Policy Summary’ of the insurance they are providing. This outlines, amongst other things, the main features, costs and benefits of the policy as well as significant or non-standard claim exemptions and how long the cover will last for. In the search for getting to grip with the insurance cover for a secured loan the Policy Summary’ is normally the best starting point. The Policy Summary’ will start by telling you the significant benefits of the cover. It will tell you what you are covered for (for example, serious accident, death, sickness and redundancy). It will also tell you how they calculate the daily rate of cover, the maximum length of time the insurance will pay the secured loan payments, the maximum benefit per month, age constraints and what will happen if you pass away. The Policy Summary’ will then tell you about the significant exclusions or limitations of the cover and this is perhaps one of the most important areas to look at when considering taking out PPI for a secured loan. This section will normally tell you which sicknesses are not covered. For example, if you knew about a specific condition within 12 months prior to taking out the loan, you won’t be covered for that specific condition. Some insurance policies stipulate they do not cover for backache unless medical evidence via an X-Ray can actually show some sort of defect. It is important to also bear in mind that certain policies will not cover you for stress, stress related illnesses or most mental health problems. Most, if not all, policies also do not cover you if you take voluntary redundancy and will also not cover you if you are forced to take involuntary redundancy within a certain time frame (e.g 60 days) of taking the policy out. You will also find that certain policies will not cover you for the duration any payments are made in place of notice (these are typically called `payments in lieu of notice’). Perhaps the most important things to consider when taking out insurance protection for a secured loan are the things you know about prior to taking out the policy. For example, have you a record of sickness or are there any `rumblings’ at work about redundancies? You must be cautious about this and if you are unsure about anything then either read the policy document prior to signing up or ask the insurance provider if they envisage any problems. It is also prudent to get any advice’ about such matters down in black and white. It is very worthwhile going through with a fine toothcomb the actual policy document itself. You may find other causes for concern, for example some policies use the fact that you are claiming Jobseekers allowance to govern whether you are employed are not. There are cases when you might not qualify for jobseekers allowance (for example, if you have over a set amount in the bank or have been paid in lieu of notice). This outcome may be that even though you are indeed unemployed the policy will not make the payments against the secured loan. It is worthwhile making sure you know how long the insurance policy will keep up the payments. For example, most policies only cover you for one or two years. After this period you will have to make the secured loan repayments yourself (although you may find, as with most policies, you may be able to claim again on the policy after a set period). A significant thing is to make sure you know the termination policy of the insurance provider. You will typically find that the PPI provider for a secured loan must give you a month in which to change your mind about the policy. This is sometimes referred to in documents, on the Internet and in the Press as a cooling off’ period. Remember if you cancel after this time the refund will probably not be in direct proportion to the remaining policy term. So you could get back less than you might expect, or even nothing. This mainly happens because of the way secured loan providers set up the PPI. They will typically assign the policy cost as a percentage of the basic loan and add this to the initial loan amount. This means you are also paying interest throughout the term of the loan on the amount charged for insurance. If you ever have cause for complaint about the PPI you have been sold for a secured loan, you should first complain directly to the firm who sold you the policy and give them chance to put things right. If you’re still not happy with the outcome than you can escalate your complaint to the Finance Ombudsman Service. For advice about this it might be worthwhile paying a visit to their website prior to taking out the loan and insurance. Summary Like all insurance, PPI policies for secured loans generally include a number of exclusions or conditions that will prevent you from claiming on a policy. Whilst it is acceptable that the insurance provider protects themselves from fraudulent or deceitful claims, it is imperative you learn what you are and what you are not covered for. There is absolutely no point paying expensive insurance premiums for a worthless policy – and you would be amazed at how many people do! When taking out any monetary commitment, particularly if it is secured against your hose, it is always worthwhile seeking independent financial advice. Most registered I.F.A.s will normally give you a 30-minute consultation at no cost and there are also downloadable vouchers on the I.F.A.s various websites. Also, never be unwilling to ask the vendor about any details in the secured loan protection policy you’re unsure about. If the salesperson cannot answer your query then don’t hesitate to ask them to escalate the question to a Supervisor or Manager. As with anything in life, it is also worth asking someone with experience, so if you are taking out insurance for a secured loan, always ask around colleagues, friends and family to see if anyone has had experience of making a claim against one. But the bottom line is, always be careful where money is involved!
